The election failure in Virginia had afflicted the US Democrats under President Joe Biden, but yesterday there was positive news at least from New Jersey. Incumbent Phil Murphy was able to prevail in the gubernatorial elections – but only barely.
Murphy defeated his Republican challenger Jack Ciattarelli. The 64-year-old is the first Democratic governor in four decades to be re-elected in New Jersey.
In the state in the northeastern United States, there was recently a left-wing spin, including new taxes for millionaires, stricter gun restrictions, a higher minimum wage and sick pay. Murphy has also defended his crackdown on the coronavirus pandemic, including masking requirements in schools.
The Democrats won ten of the twelve seats in the US House of Representatives in New Jersey in 2020, Joe Biden won the state by more than 15 percentage points ahead of Donald Trump.
