Ludwig insists on Austria-wide 2G rule in gastro

As early as Friday next week, only those who have been vaccinated and recovered should be allowed to use the catering and body-hugging service providers, and the 2G rule should also apply to gatherings of more than 25 people – and probably also in fitness studios, cinemas and hotels. At the summit of the state governors with Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) and Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (VP) this evening, Ludwig wants to convince all state leaders to join in – which should not be easy.

If a nationwide approach is unsuccessful, a state law regulation comes into effect.

Vienna will also rush ahead with vaccinations for children: This should be made possible for the age group from five to twelve years, on the one hand in the private practice area, on the other hand in a vaccination street where pediatricians advise. The approval of the US agency FDA for this age group is reliable enough, so Ludwig (more about child vaccination on page 27). The 2G rule should then also apply from the age of 12.

Automatic tightening?

Ludwig’s insistence on tightening could of course be overtaken by the negative development of the corona numbers and require an automatic follow-up: If more than 500 intensive care beds throughout Austria are occupied by Covid patients, step 4 of the step-by-step plan recently presented by Mückstein comes into force, this is what sees it 2G rule for gastronomy, hotels and body-hugging services. According to the Covid forecast consortium, the 500 threshold could be exceeded on November 17: The forecast then expects intensive occupancy between 432 and 622 beds.
