Politics: Referendum in Switzerland on climate protection and taxes

Today, people in Switzerland are allowed to vote on two issues. Among other things, it should be about the climate neutrality of the country.

Referendums on climate protection and higher corporate taxes started today in Switzerland. When it comes to climate protection, a decision is made as to whether the country should become climate-neutral with various measures by 2050. The government wants to encourage the farewell to oil and gas heating with financial incentives. Companies should be supported in converting to climate-friendly technology. More wind turbines are also to be installed. The corresponding climate protection law would bring neither bans nor new taxes.

In addition, Switzerland, along with around 140 other countries, has agreed that large and internationally active corporate groups with sales of more than 750 million euros should pay at least 15 percent in taxes – more than today in some cantons. It is now being decided whether this minimum taxation can also be introduced in Switzerland. According to surveys, a yes is indicated for both topics. The result should be available in the early afternoon.
