Donald Trump likes to rant. Gladly in big words, gladly in big letters. Since he was indicted by a federal court in Miami in the course of the document scandal, he has railed all the more. A judge in Florida is now at least partially taking the wind out of the ex-president’s sails.
District Judge Bruce Reinhart on Monday ordered that neither Trump nor his attorneys be allowed to release any evidence against him to the public. This is reported, among other things, by the Reuters news agency. It’s a first victory for the prosecution led by Special Counsel Jack Smith.

“The investigation material and any information derived therefrom may not be disclosed to the public or the media or disseminated on any news or social media platform without prior notice and consent of the United States or approval of the court,” the agency quoted from the order of the district court.
In addition, Reinhart has determined that Trump “is not allowed to keep copies” and that he can only view the case material “under the direct supervision of the defense attorney or an employee of the defense attorney”. The court is thus complying with a corresponding request from the public prosecutor’s office.
If Trump or his legal team violate the condition, he faces charges of contempt of court.

The decision was apparently also about Trump’s habit of publishing alleged evidence of his crimes on his own social media platform “Truth Social”. The Republican presidential candidate has repeatedly shared selected documents here, which he believes should prove that the charges against him are purely politically motivated. In particular, Trump has repeatedly accused the special counsel Jack Smith, who is responsible for the case, of conducting a “witch hunt” against him.
When the 37 charges were read out last week in Miami, the 77-year-old pleaded not guilty.
