In view of the worsening corona situation, the federal and state health ministers have spoken out in favor of booster vaccinations for all age groups. The chairman of the conference of health ministers, Klaus Holtschek, described the current corona situation as “dramatic, worrying and anything but all-clear”. Everyone involved in the conference in Lindau on Lake Constance, at which they met in person for the first time in a long time, was aware of this. “We are all looking at the current situation with concern,” emphasized Holtschek. “From my point of view, we are in the middle of an emergency.”
That is why the ministers have agreed on three measures to break the fourth wave. Booster vaccinations should be possible for all people six months after the second vaccination. In the paper presented by the ministers, in which the first lessons of the pandemic were formulated, it was agreed that the burden on old people’s and nursing homes was to be relieved. The same applies to the hospitals. Vulnerable groups in these facilities need special protection, said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn.
With boosters and stricter controls against the fourth wave
“We have been in the fourth wave for a while and are just noticing that it is rolling over Germany with full force,” said Spahn. In some regions, the intensive care units are already at their limit. “We have very difficult weeks ahead of us,” stressed Spahn.
