Corona: The 2G rule will apply throughout Saxony from Monday

The state of Saxony is reacting to the rapidly increasing corona numbers. From next Monday onwards, the 2G rule will apply nationwide in indoor areas and at major events.

In view of the increasing number of new infections, Saxony is introducing the 2G rule nationwide. From Monday, only those who have been vaccinated and recovered will have access to the interiors of restaurants and other indoor events, as State Social Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) said on Friday in Dresden. The state cabinet decided on a new corona ordinance, which will apply until November 25th. Major events such as Bundesliga games are also affected. 2G does not apply to retail or church services.

So far, 2G admission was only valid for vaccinated and convalescent people – in Saxony as an option model. Children and adolescents as well as people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons are to be exempted from a more stringent 2G regulation. AfD and FDP had already criticized the plans in advance.

Corona: seven-day incidence well above the national average

In Saxony, the seven-day incidence is currently 385.7 and thus well above the national average of just under 170. Only Thuringia has a slightly higher incidence. In addition, Saxony brings up the rear when it comes to vaccination rates. According to the Robert Koch Institute, 68.5 percent of adults in the Free State are currently vaccinated once and 66.3 percent are fully vaccinated. Nationwide, almost 78 percent of adults received two doses of vaccine.

Health Minister Köpping said the situation in Saxony was dramatic. Hospital occupancy is a major concern. Experts have advised the government to act now. However, the new protection ordinance is not an innovation in the true sense of the word. Just do what has been agreed beforehand.

Schools and daycare centers remain open – with mask compulsory

The Saxon 2G rule also applies to major events with more than 1000 visitors – regardless of whether they take place indoors or outdoors. At the same time, there is a maximum limit for guests. With a maximum of 50 percent occupancy, a maximum of 25,000 visitors are allowed. Exceptions for Christmas markets remain. Schools and daycare centers remain open even when the overload level is reached, and the originally planned alternating lessons are dispensed with. The mask requirement also applies in class.
