If the finance minister continues to insist on compliance with the debt brake, Germany will not be able to meet its international obligations. “That’s not a good signal,” criticizes Green foreign policy expert Jürgen Trittin.
Mr. Trittin, Finance Minister Christian Lindner, FDP, no longer sees a crisis, he wants to return to “normal” financial policy. The debt brake should pull again. you disagree?
Jürgen Trittin: The Basic Law must be respected, but then also correctly. Our country continues to bear a number of exceptional special burdens. We are stuck in a recession, there is a massive investment deficit and a war is still raging in our neighborhood. I am very sure that if the Bundestag decided to suspend the debt brake, as the Basic Law allows, the Federal Constitutional Court would not contradict it.
