The state parliament in Bremen has elected Andreas Bovenschulte President of the Senate and Mayor. The SPD politician will once again lead a red-green-red Senate.
Andreas Bovenschulte is the old and new mayor in Bremen. The citizenry elected the Social Democrat with 49 out of 86 votes cast as President of the Senate. The SPD, the Greens and the Left together make up 47 MPs.
The eight senators are then to be elected. The constituent meeting of the Senate is planned for the afternoon. The SPD has five members, the Greens and the Left two each. The Senate also includes Bremen’s representative to the federal government.
Red-Green-Red have ruled together in Bremen since 2019. For the new edition of the coalition, the alliance, which is unique in West Germany, wants to focus on education, social affairs and the climate.
