Government: Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Red-Red coalition agreement is in place

The SPD and the left in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have laid the basis for their joint state government until 2026. In 555 indents, the main topics are economy, social affairs and climate protection.

The negotiating heads of the SPD and the Left in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania presented the coalition agreement for the future red-red state government in Schwerin on Monday.

It is under the heading “Awakening 2030” and comprises 77 pages and 555 indents, as Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) said. The paper is the basis for a good, solid and reliable coalition. It never played a role in the talks that one party got four times as many votes in the state elections as the other, she emphasized. It is about using the available funds to create the best for the country over the next five years.

More support for the economy

The economy should therefore be supported even more than before. For more climate protection, offers such as a nationwide on-call bus system for rural areas and a 365-euro annual ticket for senior citizens are to be introduced. Improvements are also planned in schools and daycare centers. There are also plans to introduce an additional public holiday on March 8, International Women’s Day. When which project should be implemented will be discussed in a joint retreat, in which the results of the November tax estimate should flow, said Schwesig.

In the next few days, both sides want to talk about the layout of the ministries and their occupation. Results are announced for the end of the week. It is taken for granted that the left will get two departments.

On Saturday, party congresses of the SPD and the Left are to vote on the coalition agreement. The paper should then also be signed on the same day. The re-election of Prime Minister Schwesig and the appointment of her government are planned in the state parliament next Monday.
