The EU Commission accuses Germany of making the recognition of professional qualifications complicated. But that’s just one of the things Berlin has to react to.
Because Germany does not implement EU law from the point of view of the EU Commission, the authority has opened three proceedings against Berlin. Among other things, it is about the fact that there are presumably too great obstacles to the recognition of midwives’ professional qualifications in Germany, as the Commission announced in Brussels.
The second case revolves around ports. The Commission considers that complaints which an EU regulation requires to be dealt with effectively do not comply with this aspect. It is about complaints that the costs for port services such as fueling could not be transparent enough. In the third procedure, Germany did not ensure that the requirements of a project for better coordinated procedures in the airspace were met, according to the EU Commission.
Berlin now has two months to respond to the allegations. At the end of the so-called infringement proceedings that have now been initiated, there may be a lawsuit before the European Court of Justice and a fine. As the guardian of the treaties, the Commission monitors whether the member states comply with EU law.
