The AfD recorded an increase of seven percentage points compared to the survey in March. The Greens are shocked.
According to an SWR survey, the AfD in Baden-Württemberg is more popular than ever. If the state elections were next Sunday, the right-wing populists would get 19 percent, according to a regular representative survey by Infratest dimap on behalf of SWR.
This is an increase of seven percentage points compared to the March survey. The highest value for the AfD in the state so far was 17 percent during the 2016 migration crisis. The next state elections in Baden-Württemberg are scheduled for 2026.
Look at the other parties
According to the survey, all other parties represented in the Stuttgart state parliament are losing approval. The CDU remains the strongest force with 26 percent, but loses one percentage point.
The Greens of Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann only come to 24 percent, two percentage points less than in March – and the lowest value for the party since 2014. The Social Democrats lose two points compared to March and come to 13 percent. The FDP ends up with only 7 percent.
For comparison: In the state elections in March 2021, the Greens had reached 32.6 percent, the CDU came to 24.1 percent, the SPD to 11, the FDP to 10.5 and the AfD to 9.7 percent.
search for causes
Kretschmann was shocked by the AfD’s soaring. He said he suspected a “general diffuse uncertainty among the population” – and named war, climate change, inflation and migration as the causes. Politicians must interpret this as a loss of trust. Kretschmann pleaded for good work. You have to think about what you can do better.
The head of government also cited the constant dispute between the traffic light government as one reason for the AfD soaring. “You shouldn’t argue in public all the time.” Baden-Württemberg is traditionally more vulnerable than the north, said the Green politician, for example with a view to the past successes of the Republicans and the NPD in the south-west. He has no explanation for this. “It’s just the way it is,” he said.
