The two largest greenhouse gas emitters in the world, China and the USA, have reached an agreement for more climate protection. The Chinese climate envoy Xie Zhenhua and the US special envoy for the climate, John Kerry, announced in Glasgow. In the fight against climate change, the states agreed in their pact on protecting forests, phasing out coal and reducing methane emissions. Methane is one of the most powerful greenhouse gases. It arises from rice cultivation, from landfills and from cattle farming. The world climate summit is currently taking place in Glasgow, Scotland. Representatives from 200 nations are working on a final declaration to be presented on Friday. Only if they agree on drastic savings and then implement them will it be possible to get the climate crisis under control.
