Heavy fighting by the de facto President’s army with the RSF militia in Sudan continues. The country’s healthcare system has largely collapsed. Now another 20 civilians are dying.
At least 20 civilians have been killed in heavy fighting in Sudan’s capital region between the Sudanese army and rival RSF militia. In addition, a large number of people were injured in the attacks in the city of Omdurman, which borders the capital Khartoum, the Sudanese Ministry of Health said on Tuesday. In the nearby hospital there is a lack of important medical material such as blood supplies.
In the northeast African country, the army under de facto President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has been fighting the paramilitary militia RSF of former deputy ruler Mohammed Hamdan Daglo since mid-April. The generals had seized power together, but then fell out. The fighting is particularly concentrated in Khartoum and the neighboring cities, as well as in the Darfur region in the west of the country. The parties to the conflict often fight in the immediate vicinity of residential areas.
The country’s healthcare system has almost completely collapsed. According to the United Nations, there have been at least 53 attacks on health facilities in Sudan since the conflict began. According to the UN, three million people have been displaced in the country since the fighting broke out by the beginning of August. In addition, 880,000 people have now fled across the borders to neighboring countries.
