China has risen to become a global power. Nowhere in Europe is the People’s Republic expanding its influence as massively as in this country. The federal government is now taking countermeasures.
The days when China’s party leadership in Germany drummed for the communist world revolution are long gone. Nevertheless, there is a continuity of influence – this can be read in the German government’s China strategy passed a few weeks ago: “China,” it says there, “is using its growing political, military and economic weight to promote its interests on all continents and in international organizations and to change the existing rule-based international order according to Chinese ideas.”
