Monica Poli spends her free afternoons tracking down pickpockets in the crowds of Venice. She became a star on social media. However, some accuse the activist of racism.
It started at the Santa Lucia train station in Venice. Monica Poli had observed a particularly large number of thieves there at the time. Armed with a whistle, she sounded the alarm as soon as she spotted one. But the actions went nowhere: passers-by mostly believed they had only heard the station master’s whistle. That was 30 years ago. Since then, Poli has used her rather loud and powerful voice instead of the whistle – the actions can now be viewed online.
