Austria-wide lockdown for unvaccinated people from Monday

After a video conference with the provincial governors on Sunday there will be a “green light” for a lockdown for unvaccinated people all over Austria. Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (VP) said that on Friday after a military exercise in Tyrol – the ON reported. While it was officially stated that the lockdown would only apply in Upper Austria and Salzburg from Monday, it has now been confirmed that such exit restrictions for non-immunized people will apply throughout Austria.

The “lockdown for unvaccinated people” is to come into effect throughout Austria on Monday night. This emerges from the draft for the 5th Covid Protection Measures Ordinance. This means that Austrians without 2G proof are only allowed to leave their apartment for reasons known from previous lockdowns – e.g. for necessary errands, the way to work or for physical and mental relaxation. Children under twelve are excluded.

The exit restrictions affect people who neither have a valid vaccination certificate nor are they able to prove that they have overcome a corona infection in the last 180 days. They have already been excluded from going to local restaurants or from access to sports facilities and hairdressers. What is new for those who have not been vaccinated is that they are limited to the basic food of everyday life when shopping.

It is still possible to go to the doctor and other health services or to get a vaccination. The “satisfaction of basic religious needs” and the path to training will also be possible. Children under the age of twelve and pregnant women do not have to provide proof of 2G. Anyone who has only received an initial vaccination but does not yet have a valid vaccination certificate due to a lack of a “second stitch” can “free-check” with a PCR test.

Measures as a minimum

The measures provided for in the regulation form a minimum framework; the countries can adopt stricter rules. On Sunday, the governors held a video conference with the federal government to discuss measures to curb the currently rapidly increasing number of infections. The results will be presented in a video conference at 12:30 p.m. nachricht.at is broadcast live.

Exit restrictions and no events

Limited until November 24th

The exit restrictions for unvaccinated people are intended to “prevent a collapse in medical care”, as stated in the draft ordinance. Formally, the ordinance still has to be approved by the main committee of the National Council on Sunday evening. In view of the turquoise-green coalition majority, this is considered certain. The regulation is initially valid until November 24th and would then have to be extended.
