Dispute: Investigations into an alleged attack on AfD politicians

An AfD politician is beaten up early in the morning in Augsburg. He and his party see a connection with his work for the AfD. The police have started investigations.

An Augsburg AfD politician claims to have been the victim of a violent attack. Politicians of the AfD explained that the 35-year-old had been beaten up because of his political activity in Augsburg. Police and prosecutors did not confirm this connection.

The AfD state parliament candidate Andreas Jurca dialed the emergency call around 5 a.m. on Saturday morning and stated that he had been attacked and beaten by two strangers, the investigators reported. “As is usual in comparable cases, the cause, the course of events and the possible background to the facts reported by the 35-year-old are currently the subject of the investigation.” The police are investigating on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm. Police called on witnesses to come forward.

AfD sees connection with political activity

Jurca is an employee of the AfD parliamentary group in Munich. “The background to the fact was apparently his work for the AfD,” says a statement from the parliamentary group. According to Jurca’s description, he was asked about his candidacy for the AfD by a group of young men, the parliamentary group reported. When he said yes to the state parliament candidacy, he was immediately struck down.

Such acts have increased in recent years, said the deputy parliamentary group leader, Gerd Mannes. “They are a result of the constant agitation against the AfD.” The state chairman of the AfD, Stephan Protschka, said something similar: “The cowardly attack on Andreas Jurca is the rotten fruit of the ongoing agitation of the political mainstream against the AfD,” said the member of parliament.

According to the party, Jurca suffered a broken ankle and injuries to his face. The police also reported injuries, but Jurca saw no need for medical care when he reported it.
