Ukraine and the West are hoping for a successful offensive. And yet, behind the scenes, a different end to the war is already being considered.
On August 16, the Ukrainian army announces the liberation of the village of Uroshayne near Donetsk. A video shows the soldiers of the 35th Marine Brigade raising the blue and yellow flag. But another video shows the price of conquest: the village, formerly inhabited by 1,000 people, is now a landscape of ruins. The creators of the second video counted 31 destroyed Ukrainian tanks and armored vehicles around Uroshayne, a recognizable large part of which is of Western origin. The human casualties with which the Ukrainian army paid for the advance are innumerable.
