Russian invasion: London: More attacks possible in north-eastern Ukraine

According to British military experts, Ukraine is gradually gaining ground in the south. How could Russia react to this?

According to British military experts, Russia could intensify its attacks in the area east of the cities of Kupyansk and Lyman in north-eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian counter-offensive put Russian forces in eastern Bakhmut and southern Ukraine under pressure, the Ministry of Defense wrote in London. However, Russia continued minor attacks in the north-east in the Kupyansk-Lyman sector and made limited local progress there.

While Ukraine continues to gain ground in the south, Britain says Russia may try to regain the initiative by reverting to an “operational-level offensive.”

The possible plan

“Kupyansk-Lyman is a possible area for this,” the British wrote in their daily update on the short message service X. It is therefore possible that Russia will increase the intensity of its offensive efforts on the Kupyansk-Lyman axis in the next two months – “probably with the aim to advance west to the Oksil River and create a buffer zone around the Luhansk region.”

Ukraine liberated the Russian-occupied city of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region last year. The city and the surrounding area were then repeatedly the target of Russian shelling.

The British Ministry of Defense has published daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
