The letter was signed by senior citizens’ union boss Ingrid Korosec and the nine regional officers, including Josef Pühringer from Upper Austria. It is a request to the minister not to postpone the announced care reform again in view of the corona crisis. Because here too the situation is urgent. “In the nursing and old people’s homes there are currently thousands of beds empty because there are not enough human resources despite long waiting times for admission,” says the letter. There is no improvement in sight.
What is called for is better support for caring relatives, an upgrading of the nursing profession including nursing apprenticeship, better remuneration for employees and an expansion of mobile care and day care facilities.
The government has had care reform on its agenda for a long time, a task force has been set up and reforms have not yet been decided.
