It would be “a disaster” not to act until the intensive care units are full.
In addition, a “national effort” is necessary in order to be able to carry out booster vaccinations very quickly. The virus does not care who is currently ruling in Germany, said Merkel, alluding to the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP and their changes to the Infection Protection Act.

Merkel said she was “deeply concerned” about the situation in some countries. The primary goal is to avoid overloading the health system and to protect human life.
