According to media reports, the conservative hardliners in parliament in Tehran yesterday prepared a corresponding draft law. Accordingly, a heavy fine is provided for going for a walk. Vehicles in which dogs are transported are supposed to be confiscated for three months. In Islam, animals are generally referred to as “unclean”. That is why keeping pets is not welcome, especially among the clergy.
The police have tried several times to ban dog ownership altogether, but it never worked. Now the ban is to be enshrined in law. It also stipulates that homeowners are no longer allowed to rent out their apartments to dog and cat owners. However, observers assume that dog and cat owners will ignore a law in the same way as the previous bans.
