The 20 to 58-year-old activists were sentenced to four months in prison, with only one sentenced to six months in prison. According to the PA news agency, one of the activists announced that she would go on a hunger strike after her prison sentence.
The activists’ lawyer, Raj Chada, criticized the verdict against the instrument of civil disobedience. “Instead of having the courts lock up those who sound the alarm, it should be the government that protects us from the climate crisis,” said Chada.
