Is the new Wagenknecht party coming now or not? She herself is keeping a low profile, but a media outlet is reporting on a supposedly imminent founding.
The left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht has confirmed that she and her colleagues want to decide on founding their own party in the next few months. “The decision will be made by the end of the year,” she told the “Bild” newspaper (online). The paper reported, citing anonymous confidants of the Bundestag members, that there would be a new party – after October 8th, election day in Bavaria and Hesse.
When asked by the German Press Agency, Wagenknecht said: “That is the opinion of the “Bild” newspaper. It remains the same: we will decide on the founding of the party by the end of the year at the latest.” Six people close to her also said there was no new status. As soon as the decision was made, it would be made public.
The former head of the Bundestag faction had fallen out with her party and especially the leadership in a dispute over the direction. He accuses her of having distanced herself from the interests of her core clientele of low-income earners and ordinary people. Wagenknecht has been toying with founding his own party for a long time. She had already tried to set up a parallel structure under the name “Stand Up” but had failed to establish it.
