Should Gerhard Schröder, the controversial former chancellor, be honored for his 60 years of SPD membership? Schröder’s local association in Hanover fell out over the issue. Now it gives in star-Information a creative way out – and a specific date.
Until a few weeks ago, it was not clear what would happen next with Gerhard Schröder and the SPD, whether things would continue at all, or whether it would simply be over after decades of shared joys and torments. Other Social Democrats wanted to throw him out of the party and initiated an expulsion procedure to do so. But the process failed in several instances.
And now? Suddenly there is a strange twist. Schröder is not only allowed to stay, he should even be honored by the SPD.
