Tax cut: Thuringia: Buschmann defends FDP voting behavior

The debate about tax cuts in Thuringia continues. Buschmann defends the FDP: “You can ask yourself whether the CDU should have submitted this proposal. But it wasn’t us.”

In the debate about a tax cut implemented in Thuringia by the CDU, FDP and AfD, Federal Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) defended the voting behavior of the Liberals in Erfurt.

“If a democratic party like the CDU submits a proposal that corresponds 100 percent to the party decisions of the FDP, and we agree to it, it is difficult to scandalize,” he told the VRM daily newspapers and portals.

The FDP in the state parliament in Erfurt voted on Thursday together with the AfD and the CDU – against the vote of the minority government of the Left and SPD – for a tax cut. The vote sparked nationwide criticism because the FDP and CDU relied on the votes of the AfD. The AfD state association in Thuringia is classified as right-wing extremist in the Free State by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and is being monitored.

Buschmann emphasized: “We don’t work with the AfD.” The FDP in Thuringia approved a request from the CDU. The question of cooperation therefore arises for the CDU and not for the Liberals. “You can ask yourself whether the CDU should have submitted this proposal. But it wasn’t us.” It must be possible to approve applications for tax relief for citizens, said Buschmann. “Giving the AfD the power to decide what people can talk about and discuss about will only make them stronger.”
