CDU in Thuringia: Majority supports legislative resolution with AfD votes

The vote on property tax in Thuringia last week brought the CDU heavy criticism. In a survey, a clear majority supports the party’s approach.

Last week, the CDU pushed through a reduction in property taxes in Thuringia, also with votes from the AfD parliamentary group led by Björn Höcke. There was heavy criticism for this. According to a Civey survey, a majority of German citizens support the Union’s actions. 55 percent of those surveyed found it “right” or “rather right” that the CDU and FDP passed the law together with the AfD.

Approval was particularly high at 98 percent among AfD supporters, but also among Union voters, three quarters of people think that the party did the right thing. Among FDP supporters it is still almost 60 percent. Rejection of the approach was particularly high among SPD (76 percent) and Green voters (81 percent).

Civey has from September 15th. Around 5,000 German citizens aged 18 and over were surveyed online by September 18, 2023. The company collects data in its own online panel with around one million verified and monthly active participants. The results are representative due to quotas and weighting, taking into account the statistical errors shown in each case, in this case 2.5 percentage points (overall result).
