Skin cancer screening, blood work, gynecological check-ups: many people in Germany do not take advantage of preventive examinations. This emerges from the “Health Report 2023”.
According to a survey, one in four Germans does not take any preventive examinations. This emerges from the “Health Report 2023” from the pharmaceutical manufacturer Stada (Bad Vilbel), which was to be presented in Madrid today. 32,000 people from 16 European countries were surveyed for the report.
According to the survey, only 47 percent of people in Germany take advantage of skin cancer screening. Only 64 percent have ever had a blood test done. 20 percent of all women do not have routine gynecological check-ups. Only 17 percent of men go for testicular cancer screenings.
Not knowing is one of the reasons
“When looking at the reasons for the lack of use of prevention services, a lack of knowledge also emerges,” summarize the authors of the study. For example, 29 percent are unsure which preventive services are covered by health insurance.
The survey was conducted between March and April 2023. There were around 2,000 respondents per country. According to Stada, the study is representative according to age, gender and region. Across Europe, the report shows that preventive health measures are not well received. “9 out of 10 Europeans do not have adequate preventive health care,” conclude the authors of the report.
