The Freedom Party reacts with flaming indignation to the new measures against the corona wave – they are particularly bothered by the planned mandatory vaccination.
In a broadcast, party leader Herbert Kickl, who recently tested positive for Covid himself, wrote: “As of today, Austria is a dictatorship!”
With the announced “general compulsory vaccination”, the turquoise-green federal government is crossing “a dark red line,” said Kickl. He considers the compulsory vaccination to be unconstitutional.
The head of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Basic and Human Rights, Michael Lysander Fremuth, promptly contradicts this. He says the introduction of the compulsory corona vaccination is primarily a political question and not very problematic in terms of human rights. The protection of the general public could be placed above the interests of the individual.
In any case, today is a major battle day for the FP. Shortly before the lockdown, opponents of the measures demonstrated in downtown Vienna. The blues organize the largest demonstration.
A total of 10,000 participants are expected. For the FP, it is a setback that Kickl cannot lead the demonstration because it is in quarantine.
Ex-FP boss Heinz-Christian Strache will be there. The Vice Chancellor, who failed in Ibiza, was eagerly promoting participation in the rallies on the Internet.
Demonstrations in other state capitals and metropolitan areas are likely. Already on Wednesday evening around 4,000 people gathered in Graz to demonstrate against the restrictions.
“Warnings have been ignored”
Criticism also came from the Social Democrats and the Neos yesterday. For SP leader Pamela Rendi-Wagner it is clear: “The fourth lockdown could have been prevented. The government has not taken the experts’ warnings seriously for too long.”
She once again called the vaccination requirement a “sensitive topic”, but the decisive factor is that a situation like the current one is prevented in the future.
For the Neos, the new lockdown is the result of a total failure by the federal government. “The fact that it now seems to be the last resort to protect the health system shows the hesitation and hesitation before it,” said club boss Beate Meinl-Reisinger.
Those federal states that have made their preparations and widely rolled out vaccination and PCR tests would also be punished. She is certain: “Austria would have spared itself all that if resolute action had been taken in the summer.”
