Styrian hospital boss Tscheliessnigg resigns

As the KAGes wrote in a broadcast, the resignation will take place on December 1st. Tscheliessnigg had been KAGes boss since spring 2013. It remained unclear whether his resignation had anything to do with his controversial comments on vaccination. These had already led to calls for resignation.

In January the Styrian Green leader Sandra Krautwaschl called for Tscheliessnigg to be recalled if he did not withdraw his statements about the “barely checked” corona vaccination. He did this in a letter to around 19,000 KAGes employees before Christmas 2020. In the Styrian Saturday edition of the “Kleine Zeitung” Tscheliessnigg was quoted as saying that he was about to be vaccinated. If the dead vaccines were not approved in time, he would take an mRNA vaccine this year. The level of knowledge is different today than at the time of his statements, which is why he still does not understand the criticism at that time. He even considers the lockdown from Monday to be too short, it would have to take longer to relieve hospitals and intensive care units. He said little about the compulsory vaccination. You need a higher vaccination quota, at the same time he warned against a division in society.

Health Councilor Juliane Bogner-Strauss (ÖVP) thanked the long-time KAGes boss in a broadcast from the country, but also referred to differences: “We have launched large and pioneering projects together and are always respectful and benevolent to one another, even if we met with different points of view. ” The succession will be clarified by December 1st. Schützenhöfer also thanked Tscheliessnigg, who will be 75 years old in December, as the best choice for the management of the KAGes.
