The cars slowly wind their way down the winding road, down the hills of the Caucasus towards the border, towards safety. It is Sunday, five days after Azerbaijan attacked Nagorno-Karabakh, nine months since civilians’ cars last drove here along the Lachin Corridor road from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. Several dozen people have gathered at the crossing. They wait, some with phones to their ears, others with binoculars in their hands. They wait and ask themselves: Will the trapped Karabakh Armenians finally get out?
