At least 31 people were killed in a suicide attack during a religious event in southwest Pakistan. 62 others were injured, as a police officer on site told the German Press Agency.
A police officer is also among the dead. Accordingly, the crime occurred when followers of Sufi Islam gathered in front of a mosque in the city of Mastung in Baluchistan province. The number of deaths could still rise: According to a hospital, many of the injured were in critical condition.
The newspaper “Dawn”, citing the local health minister, even spoke of 52 deaths. So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the crime. Followers of Sufism in Pakistan are primarily persecuted by the Islamic State terrorist militia.
Numerous celebrations took place today in predominantly Muslim Pakistan in honor of the Prophet Mohammed’s birthday. People gathered to pray together and take part in processions on this Pakistani holiday.
