Federal Council: Children’s passports will be abolished | STERN.de

Starting next year, no new children’s passports will be issued. The Federal Council decided that. What does the new rule look like?

The child passport will be abolished. The document, which is currently available for children under 12, is to be replaced by an electronic passport with a longer period of validity and the possibility of use for worldwide travel. The Federal Council today approved a corresponding change in passport law. Children’s passports can no longer be applied for from January 2024.

According to the changes, it is also provided that appropriate regulatory authorizations will create the possibility of delivering passports, identity cards and electronic residence permits by post at the applicant’s request.
