Elon Musk is a friend of free expression. In a recent post on his platform X, he now speaks out against the German government.
Tesla founder Elon Musk likes to take on other powerful people. In a recent post on his Internet platform X, he now has Germany in his sights. Since then, the Foreign Office and the US billionaire have been engaged in a dispute over German aid for the rescue of migrants in the Mediterranean. But from the beginning:
Musk referred to an Italian post on Friday that praised the AfD and criticized the fact that rescue ships run by aid organizations with German support were taking in migrants. “Does the German public know about this?” Musk wrote on the platform formerly known as Twitter. The Foreign Office reacted promptly via its English-language X account: “Yes. And that’s called saving lives.”
Elon Musk talks about “invasion vibes”
But Musk doubled down and wrote: “So you’re really proud of it. Interesting. To be honest, I doubt that the majority of the German public supports this. Have you conducted a survey?” If Germany transports large quantities of “illegal immigrants” to Italian soil, it has “invasion vibes.”
There had been a dispute between the governments in Rome and Berlin over the past few days. In a letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized the fact that the German government wanted to financially support organizations that look after boat migrants in Italy. Rome sees this as interference in internal affairs. In return, the Foreign Office pointed out that this was implementing a decision by the Bundestag.
