Survey: The mood in Germany is bad

Most people in Germany felt like things were better five years ago – and many don’t expect much improvement in the future. Supporters of the FDP and AfD particularly poorly assess their situation.

According to a survey, many German citizens complain about a poor mood in Germany – and expect a worse standard of living in the future, especially for the younger generation. According to the survey by the polling institute Forsa for RTL/ntv, 64 percent said that the “general mood in their personal environment” was “worse today than it was five years ago”. In East Germany it was even 70 percent. Supporters of the FDP (85 percent) and the AfD (84 percent) in particular perceived a bad climate in their environment.

A good third (36 percent) described their “personal quality of life” today as “worse than five years ago”. 40 percent saw no change, but 23 percent saw an improvement. 65 percent of AfD voters complained about a decline in their quality of life. 71 percent expect that the younger generation will have a “worse standard of living” in the future compared to most people today.

The survey was conducted on September 25th and 26th among 1003 respondents. The statistical margin of error was given as plus/minus three percent.
