This is not the first time that Donald Trump has appeared in a New York court this year. On Monday, however, it is not a criminal case, but a civil case. The public prosecutor in charge accuses the ex-president of financial fraud amounting to millions. Of course, the Republican presidential candidate sees it differently. He was coming to New York “to fight for my name and reputation,” he wrote the evening before on the online platform “Truth Social,” which he co-founded.
A judge found the 77-year-old, his sons and senior employees guilty in a preliminary ruling last Tuesday. The judge ruled that Trump had deliberately overstated the assets of his real estate empire in the past in order to get better conditions for loans, for example, and accused the 77-year-old of living in a “fantasy world”.
Trump, who is running for the Republican presidential nomination, responded to the court’s decision in New York with the usual counterattacks: “Today’s verdict on a company that has done outstanding work for the state of New York ignores the fact that murder and… all other forms of violent crime in New York State have reached record levels,” he wrote on Truth Social. “Can you imagine a verdict coming down against me for doing my business perfectly while allowing people to riot on the sidewalks of New York?”
Trump claimed that the judiciary’s actions were forcing thousands of companies to withdraw from New York. “A very sad day for the New York State justice system!”

The civil lawsuit in New York is just one of several legal disputes in which Trump has been involved since the end of his presidency. The other cases involve hush money payments to a porn actress, sexual abuse and defamation as well as allegations of conspiracy and attempted election fraud. In all cases, the accused vehemently denies any wrongdoing and claims that the investigations underway against him are a political witch hunt by the Democratic Party and biased left-wing judicial representatives.
