Survey: Majority believes Germany is overwhelmed with 300,000 asylum seekers

An estimated 300,000 people will apply for asylum in Germany in 2023. According to a Forsa survey, only a majority of supporters of one party believe that Germany can cope with this figure.

So far in 2023, more than 220,000 people have applied for asylum in Germany. In total, there will likely be more than 300,000 asylum seekers here in 2023. But according to the RTL/n-tv trend barometer, only 27 percent of German citizens believe that Germany can still cope with this number of asylum seekers. The vast majority of 70 percent consider Germany to be overwhelmed by this.

Only among Green Party supporters do a slim majority (56 percent) believe that Germany can cope with this number of refugees. Among the AfD supporters, 98 percent think Germany is overwhelmed by this, among the Union supporters the figure is 79 percent, the FDP 69 percent, the SPD 57 percent and the Green Party supporters 41 percent.

For this survey on behalf of RTL Deutschland, Forsa surveyed a total of 1,009 people in Germany on September 28th and 29th, 2023. The error tolerance is +/-3 percentage points.
