Migration: How the Federal Police want to stop smugglers in Saxony

The number of refugees is also increasing in Saxony. Smugglers smuggle them across the Polish border. An undercover federal police unit wants to stop them.

A dark gray van is parked at the traffic lights. The green lettering of a car rental company shines on the side wall. Three men sit in front. Dark hair, stubble. “The driver and passenger fit into the police grid,” says Police Chief Inspector Andreas Klemm*, who heads the federal police’s undercover investigation unit at the Ludwigsdorf location in Saxony. Male people circling seemingly aimlessly through the commercial area in a rented van: suspicious. Because Polish territory begins behind the motorway exit. The small side streets and field paths near the Görlitz junction are popular places for smugglers to “dump their goods”.
