One strand of the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline is still intact. Kremlin boss Putin is now offering to deliver 27 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Germany through this pipe.
In view of the high energy prices in Germany, Kremlin boss Vladimir Putin has again offered gas deliveries through the last intact line of the Nord Stream 2 Baltic Sea pipeline. Russia is ready to pump 27 billion cubic meters of gas per year through the pipeline, but the decision rests with Germany, Putin said in Sochi at the international Valdai discussion forum in front of experts from around 40 countries, including Germany. According to the company of the same name, 59 billion cubic meters were pumped through Nord Stream 1 in 2021.
At the same time, Putin once again condemned the blowing up of the pipelines laid from Russia to Germany as an “act of international terrorism.” The Russian president again accused the USA of being behind the attacks. They had a motive and always emphasized that they would do everything they could to stop Nord Stream. The USA’s goal is to sell its own gas in Europe. The attacks remain unsolved even after more than a year. Most recently, the media reported that the tracks led to Ukraine.
Russian gas flows to Europe every day
At the same time, Putin reminded that Russian gas continues to be piped through Ukraine to Europe every day. Ukraine continues to receive money from Russia for this transit. Not only Ukraine, as a war opponent, benefits from the income, Russia also receives money from the sale. “We have some of it too.” The transit contracts between Moscow and Kiev expire at the end of next year.
Last year, Russia itself stopped deliveries through Nord Stream 1 in order to bring about an end to Western sanctions. In order for Nord Stream 2 to be put into operation, the punitive measures would have to be lifted. That’s not in sight.
Putin praises former Chancellor Schröder
Putin has called on Germans to treat former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder with respect. “You should remember what he did for the country,” Putin said of his friend Schröder in Sochi. Schröder always had the interests of Germany and the country’s economy in mind.
Putin was reacting to discussions in Germany about how to deal with the 79-year-old SPD politician. Schröder is criticized because he is committed to friendship with the commander-in-chief of the Russian armed forces despite Moscow’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Putin, who was stationed in Dresden as an intelligence officer during the GDR era, also claimed that the number of his friends in Germany was increasing.
