The decisions of governors and government members present in Tyrol – from lockdown to mandatory vaccination – also led to resentment and excitement within the parties.
On Friday morning, Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (VP) urged that the students be left at home. Shortly afterwards, Education Minister Heinz Famann (VP) made it clear that the schools will remain open and face-to-face lessons will take place. The fact that Famann prevailed can also be attributed to the fact that he is said to have expressed his demand very vehemently. He is said to have made it absolutely clear that it would be very difficult for him to remain minister in the face of a school lockdown.
In the SP, on the other hand, the MPs had to learn from the media that they should vote for a vaccination that had long been rejected by the SP. They therefore called for a late group meeting on Friday. Skeptics urged more information and a time limit. The conversation was that after a fourth vaccination and a certain vaccination quota had been reached, the state should no longer make any requirements. However, the fact that even the mostly rebellious governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil, supports a compulsory vaccination, should also have had an effect on critical SP mandataries.
Among the Greens, a former party leader surprisingly joined the skeptics camp: Madeleine Petrovic addressed the demonstrators at the MFG party rally over the weekend. She criticized the fact that there was no adequate compensation for the consequences of vaccinations and denounced the machinations of the pharmaceutical lobby. This is not to be understood politically, she added later. Green boss Werner Kogler did not want to comment on the request, the Green Club spoke of a private opinion. Incidentally, Petrovic worked in the animal welfare department in the Green Ministry of Social Affairs until June 30th. As a minister, Rudi Anschober had brought the former party friend into the department. After a year she left the ministry.
The bourgeois blues
Even among the liberals, displeasure with the radical course of FP boss Herbert Kickl is increasing in the bourgeois segment. The image as a party that supports the state is ruined, the FP cannot benefit from the VP crisis in surveys. Of course, nobody wants to say this openly. Most recently, Upper Austria’s FP chairman Manfred Haimbuchner admitted that he would be vaccinated if the number of his antibodies drops.
Kickl is still in quarantine after a positive corona test. Yesterday he asked the medical association to ensure that those infected with corona receive immediate medical treatment.
