The Central Council of Jews had announced that calls for acts of violence against Jewish institutions on Friday had been circulating on social networks since Wednesday. The threats have not been verified, but there could be copycats or individual perpetrators. “There is an abstract increased risk situation,” explained the Central Council. “We are in constant communication with the security authorities, who take the security situation for Jews in Germany very seriously.”

The background is the terrorist attack by the Islamist organization Hamas on Israel and the military reaction of the attacked country, in particular the air strikes on the Gaza Strip, which is populated by Palestinians.
