In Germany, people cheer the Hamas attack. And the political left was conspicuously reserved in its solidarity with Israel. Why?
“Solidarity with Israel” appears as a banner or tile on the pages of all parliamentary groups and parties. The only exceptions: the AfD and the Left. Overall, both parties were not particularly quick in their reactions to the situation in the Middle East. Even members of their own ranks criticized the fact that the AfD leadership remained silent as “unprofessional”. A few politicians from the left camp spoke out; united against the violence in Israel, the party executive initially focused on Israel. And expressions of sympathy for the wave of terror from Gaza were circulating online.
