After Hamas terror: Another Bundeswehr machine brings Germans back from Israel

The Bundeswehr is participating in the repatriation of German citizens from Israel. Three Luftwaffe aircraft are already back in Germany, and another military transporter is on the way.

The Bundeswehr brought German citizens out of Israel with another plane late on Sunday evening. The A400M military transporter took off from Tel Aviv at around 9:20 p.m., the operational command announced on X (formerly Twitter). The plane is on its way to Germany with 60 passengers on board.

It is the fourth Bundeswehr aircraft to fly to Israel. Around 160 people had already been brought back to Germany on the three previous flights, as the Foreign Office and the Defense Ministry announced in the afternoon. Two planes landed at the military airfield in Wunstorf, Lower Saxony, in the morning and one in Berlin in the afternoon.

If the situation worsens, the Bundeswehr is also ready for a military evacuation, the two ministries said in a statement. Further preparations would be made. The crisis team also decided to strengthen the crisis support teams sent to the region.

About a week after Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel, the Bundeswehr is immediately involved in getting German citizens out of Israel – while the army there is preparing a large-scale attack on the Gaza Strip controlled by the militant Islamists. In the past few days, the Foreign Office had already helped around 2,800 German citizens and family members leave the country, most of whom had returned on special Lufthansa flights.
