“Security is the best remedy against the right,” says Christiane Benner. As the future union leader, she wants to tackle the further rise of the AfD.
The designated IG Metall boss Christiane Benner wants to focus her work on the fight against the AfD. “We as a union in particular have enormous opportunities to work against the further rise of the AfD,” she told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”.
“We can take away the ground from the right if we use unions and works councils to give people security in the companies, for example by giving them further qualifications and seeing good prospects for themselves in all the changes.”
The 55-year-old wants to be the first woman to be elected head of Germany’s largest union IG Metall on October 23rd.
She further explained: “We can win people back, even if they have drifted to the right. Because our companies are important and functioning places of democracy. Always provided that there is fair cooperation between employers and employees through works councils. Because security is the best Means against the right.”
