He wanted to be a “President for everyone”, was the statement made by Andreas Stangl before his election as the new President of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Labor (AK). In the election yesterday, Wednesday, by the AK general assembly, he got 90.43 percent of the delegate’s votes. Stangl’s own parliamentary group, the Social Democratic Unionists (FSG), has 79 out of 110 seats in the general assembly.
With the election of Stangl, a generation change took place: As reported, Johann Kalliauer (68) had headed the Upper Austrian AK as President for 18 years. The 51-year-old Andreas Stangl was previously AK Vice President; Helmut Woisetschlger, previously a member of the AK board and state chairman of the vida union, was elected to this position. The chairmanship of the FSG parliamentary group in the chamber, which Stangl held for nine years, was taken over by Michael Seemayer, state secretary of the Pro-Ge union. Stangl will continue to lead the FSG parliamentary group in the Upper Austrian GB until the state conference in February, and he will then follow Kalliauer as GB state chief.
After the election, Stangl received numerous congratulations. Governor Thomas Stelzer (VP) also combined his congratulations with the “invitation to continue living the path of good cooperation in politics in the future”. “Andreas Stangl knows the diversity of work and has a heart for young people”, congratulated SP state chairwoman Birgit Gerstorfer.
