The explosion on the grounds of a hospital in Gaza threatens to further escalate the situation in the Middle East. Numerous Arab states as well as Turkey and Iran blamed Israel for the incident, which killed several hundred civilians on Tuesday evening. There have been protests, some of them massive, in several countries.
It is not yet certain who caused the explosion. Israel speaks of a misguided Palestinian rocket from the terrorist group “Islamic Jihad” and has provided alleged evidence of this. US President Joe Biden said in Tel Aviv on Wednesday that it “appears” that the Palestinian side is responsible. Hamas accuses Israel of shelling the hospital.
