Israel is trying to use military means to wipe out Hamas in the Gaza Strip. But Middle East expert Markus Kaim believes this is impossible – and explains why.
Watch the video: Middle East expert confident: “Israel cannot wipe out Hamas.”
In the Middle East Special, Markus Kaim from the Science and Politics Foundation speaks. Kaim is considered one of the leading Middle East experts and advises the federal government on foreign and security policy issues. He is extremely skeptical as to whether Israel can succeed in destroying Hamas.
Kaim’s statements in brief:
- Hamas is based in Qatar. Even if the Gaza Strip were to be razed to the ground… Hamas cannot be wiped out. Israel will come to the point of claiming that they have been defeated.
- Islamic Jihad (blamed by Israel for the hospital attack) has the same origins as Hamas, but is not quite as active as Hamas.
- Use conversations to show solidarity. Biden got Israel to agree to send aid to Gaza from Egypt. Baerbock’s visit will help to see the situation politically again: what is the status of Jerusalem? All the unresolved questions come into focus.
