North Korea supports Russia in the war with arms deliveries. Why – that is not entirely clear. The British Ministry of Defense has suspicions.
The British Ministry of Defense assumes that ammunition from North Korea has now arrived in western Russia. If North Korea maintains the volume and pace of its deliveries, it is “on track to become one of Russia’s most important foreign arms suppliers alongside Iran and Belarus,” the ministry wrote in its daily update on the short message service X, formerly Twitter.
North Korea has been criticized internationally for supplying weapons for President Vladimir Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine. According to information from the USA, the isolated East Asian country gave Russia more than 1,000 containers with military equipment and ammunition. The Kremlin had rejected the reports of arms deliveries as unsubstantiated.
“It is currently unclear what Russia has promised North Korea in return,” the British wrote. “It is unlikely that the entire package has been finalized yet.” It is likely to include a mix of financial compensation, other economic support, the provision of military technology and cooperation in other high-tech areas such as space.
The British Ministry of Defense has been publishing daily information on the course of the war since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Moscow accuses London of disinformation.
