Heavy criticism after Schallenberg’s appearance on “Licht ins Dunkel”

Heavy criticism after Schallenberg’s appearance on “Licht ins Dunkel”

There members of the federal government celebrated in the middle of the lockdown without a mask or distance and “without a genius”, as the Viennese party leader Dominik Nepp criticized in a press conference. The ORF event was a “symbol of planting,” he said. According to Nepp, Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) is ready to resign.

“First comes the food, then the morale,” commented the Viennese boss blue of the event. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was also there, although he belongs to the risk group in terms of age and lifestyle. When it comes to his own party desires, the Federal President does not play the moral role model, criticized Nepp.

ORF: There was no after-show party

The FPÖ presented photos of the event, which, according to Nepp, were taken at the subsequent “aftershow party” – which was also said to have been toasted with sparkling wine. Since the Chancellor could also be seen in a picture, Nepp said: “Schallenberg should actually resign.” The “Licht ins Dunkel” gala was also viewed critically in several newspapers and on social media.

In a statement to the APA, the ORF emphasized that the “Licht ins Dunkel” gala, like all ORF studio broadcasts, was considered a TV production and not an event and could therefore also be carried out in lockdown. The guests – high-ranking politicians as well as celebrities – were not guests in the actual sense, but participants at the gala, who also received donations on the phones during the evening. “In this role, they were part of the production and therefore entitled to exit. The politicians present took part in the TV production in their professional role.” In addition, all those involved were “of course” 2G checked and tested on a daily basis.

For the alleged “aftershow party”, the ORF stated that there was no such thing. The contributors were said goodbye after the live broadcast. It was around 35 minutes before the last ones left the ORF. “In the process, souvenir photos were apparently taken by individual participants, which, taken out of context, can give the wrong impression of a party situation,” said the public media company.

The fact that the 2G rule applied at the gala and that a corona test was also necessary does not change the hypocrisy, according to the FPÖ boss in Vienna. Because the audience in front of the television sets is “locked up” at home and is frustrated by the police on the way to work, complain the Freedom Party. If the federal government is so “tattered” and celebrates the celebration in front of an audience of millions, then one shouldn’t be surprised if people take to the streets – or have a beer in the back rooms of bars. The FPÖ was against the corona lockdown, Nepp affirmed. That is why one also criticizes the government’s “hypocrisy” shown at the gala.

Excitement about the audience at Dancing Stars

The gala for “Licht ins Dunkel” brought in around 3.4 million euros in donations on Wednesday evening, which are used for various projects. On average, around 565,000 viewers followed the evening on ORF 2, with around 1.7 million people following the event held by “Dancing Stars” in the ballroom for at least a short time.

The 14th season of the ORF dance show “Dancing Stars”, which is coming to an end today, Friday evening, could cause another excitement. Since this is also a TV production, it should also take place, according to the ORF. The safety measures provide that apart from the core team, only a small number of tested extras who have been vaccinated and fully immunized are involved in production. “These extras take on the role of ‘studio guests’ to convey the familiar and valued ballroom atmosphere to the audience at home in front of the TV sets, especially during the main evening show, which is so important in Lockdown. They sign a corresponding agreement and receive no fee”, held the ORF.
