Elon Musk had offered his system to restore communication with aid workers in Gaza. Israel’s communications minister vehemently rejects it: He sees the danger of abuse by Hamas.
Israel says it will do everything it can to prevent the use of the Starlink satellite communications system in the Gaza Strip. “Israel will use all means at its disposal to combat this,” wrote Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi on the online platform X – formerly Twitter.
The reason is that the Islamist Hamas, which rules in the Gaza Strip, would abuse the system for terrorist purposes. “There’s no doubt about it, we know it, and Musk knows it.”
Tech billionaire Elon Musk had previously announced that he wanted to use his company SpaceX’s satellite communication system to help restore interrupted communication with internationally recognized aid organizations in the Gaza Strip.
Karhi: Hostage release as a condition for Starlink deployment
Communications Minister Karhi wrote on X that it was like the terrorist network Islamic State (IS). “Perhaps Musk would be willing to cite the release of our kidnapped babies, sons, daughters, elderly people as a condition of (the use of Starlink). All of them!”
As long as this doesn’t happen, his ministry will “cut all connections with Starlink.”
